Unboxing & Review: TokyoTreat April 2017 (2nd Anniversary Edition)

TokyoTreat Unboxing & Review April 2017

I know it’s late now, but happy second anniversary TokyoTreat! ☆*:.。.o(≧▽≦)o.。.:*☆

There have been some big changes to the TokyoTreat service, first up is a brand new box design! The shape is totally different and the box is much sturdier, you can pick it up with one hand now rather than two which makes it MUCH easier to handle. I’m sure my Post Man appreciates this change!

Here are a couple of comparison photos to let you see how the old box and new box look side by side:

The graphics have had a total make over too; the inside, back and sides of the box feature cute stylized snacks and drinks:

Visually and practically speaking I am very pleased with the new design. It may not look it but the new box is bigger on the inside, which leads to the next change; each box size will now feature more snacks for the same price! How awesome is that? The premium box will now contain 18 snacks, including one traditional wagashi snack and a 5 piece dagashi bag.

What’s a dagashi bag you say? Glad you asked! Each month we will receive a mystery bag containing 5 dagashi snacks. This is the dagashi bag from the April box:

And here are the snacks unwrapped:

Dagashi Bag Open

I’m not going to go into lots of detail on the dagashi bag this month because I’m already worried this post is going to be huge after talking about the changes ^^;

This month the dagashi bag included a bag of yakisoba sauce flavoured corn puffs (delicious), a large chocolate coated corn puff (good), a pizza flavoured umaibo (gross in a delicious way as most umaibo are), a pack of pudding flavoured mochi (utterly amazing, tasted just like custard pudding but with a jelly filled soft mochi texture) and a pack of rice crackers with a sachet of strange sauce that is much better for drawing faces with than it is for eating, but that tastes fine in small quantities (if anyone can tell me what that sauce is I’d love to know!). All in all a great variety, I was impressed that there was nothing as noticeably cheap or poor quality as I expected. I think I’ve been too critical of dagashi in the past! Or maybe I just had some bad examples? Anyway, the dagashi bags are a really fun addition (especially since the price didn’t go up to include them!).

Other changes involve faster shipping when you sign up as TokyoTreat now ship everyday, great news for new subscribers, and general improvements to the website and customer portal.

Phew! What a lot of change! All very exciting, it’s great to see services getting bigger and better over time. I’m particularly excited for the wagashi snacks, can’t wait to see what traditional snacks TokyoTreat can find for us 。^‿^。

Now, please do read on for the actual unboxing ^_~

TokyoTreat Unboxking & Review

I can’t believe it’s almost May and I haven’t done a TokyoTreat unboxing since December, I’m so behind! つ´Д`)つ

It’s been a bad few months in our household, so much so I just haven’t had the time or energy necessary to sit down and write a blog post.  I’ve still been subscribed to TokyoTreat and OyatsuBox (great boxes so far this year) and actually had a couple of other boxes I wanted to write about, sadly time has flown by and I just don’t see the point writing about boxes from months ago. The bad times have to pass sometime though, hopefully things will be looking up and I can get back into unboxing/reviewing regularly from now on.

So, on to the March TokyoTreat box!

The theme for March is Sakura & Matcha. I loved the last matcha themed box TokyoTreat did so naturally I was very excited when I saw the theme reveal. This is actually the last box we’ll be receiving in this style as TokyoTreat have made some pretty exciting changes to both the box itself and the contents. Bye bye big square boxes! I’ll be talking about those changes in my next TokyoTreat post, since my April box has already arrived and it’s the first of the new boxes.

Unboxing & Review: Japan Candy Box (Plus Giveaway)

photo Japan Candy Box Unboxing amp Review_zpsjnjihmlz.jpg

Today I’m going to talk about an awesome subscription box; Japan Candy Box! This box is pretty popular so you may have heard of it already, if you haven’t you can find their website here: www.japancandybox.com

Japan Candy Box is a monthly subscription box containing 8-10 carefully selected Japanese snacks. They currently have one box size with several subscription options, the standard monthly subscription costs $19.90 per month and, as is often the case with subscription boxes, you can find a discounted rate on the longer term plans.

Shipping is free worldwide, which is very impressive! My box was sent using Registered Airmail (which includes a tracking number) and even with the busy Christmas period my box made it to the UK in just under 3 weeks. My other boxes took a lot longer than this to arrive so this really surprised me!

Japan Candy Box describe themselves as ‘the sweetest monthly Japanese candy subscription box‘ and after unboxing this one I must say I agree; Japan Candy Box officially hold the title of most adorably kawaii candy box we’ve ever tried! Read on to see what cute and delicious snacks came in the November 2016 edition ♥ω♥

Giveaway details are at the end of the post~

Giveaway has ended and winner has been contacted by email 🙂

Unboxing & Review: OyatsuBox November 2016

photo OyatsuBox November 2016 Unboxing -_zpsf9qpiogh.jpg

I know this post is a little late, our box was seriously delayed due to the time of year (the UK postal service seems to just break around Christmas when it comes to international deliveries) and then Christmas was upon us and family time took priority over blog time.

Now New Years Eve has arrived I figure I better get this post published this year, eh? On that note,Happy New Year everyone! May it be everything you wish it to be! ღゝ◡╹)ノ♡

Our December Oyatsubox arrived on Christmas eve, which was a surprise because after this one being so late I didn’t expect the December box until January. That was a nice surprise! I’ll be getting that post up soon too, I’m actually more excited about the December box than this box to be honest (not that this box is bad!), it has a few items I’m super excited about so do check back soon for December’s unboxing/review ^_^

For now, read on to find out what we thought of the awesome November box (♡´౪`♡)

Unboxing & Review: TokyoTreat Premium November 2016

Guess who’s back! ٩(^ᴗ^)۶

Things have REALLY gotten in the way of blogging recently, but all being well this will be the last time I’m saying this! I’ve finally got my lighting sorted (which has been my main problem) so I can provide better quality photos for you all, and because I no longer need to wait for a sunny day I’ll be able to work to my own schedule and get posts up regularly again. Yay!

There are quite a few changes I’m planning to make over the coming months, some major some not so much. You may have noticed the title of this post is ‘unboxing & review’. That’s right, the first major change is no more plain old unboxing posts with the promise of further individual reviews (which I rarely have time to do anymore); from now on I’ll be reviewing each item in the box in one post. This does mean longer and more photo heavy posts, which I’ve been hesitant to do, but it makes sense. At the very least I hope they’ll be of more use to those who read them since you’ll get to see and read about what I actually thought of each snack rather than just see the packaging and read which ones I think will be good, or which ones I’m looking forward to trying. A good change I hope!

Now, on to this month’s unboxing. The theme for November is ‘Japan’s most iconic snacks’, which is sure promising a lot! Read on to see what was included in the November box:

Unboxing: TokyoTreat Premium ‘Bizarre Candy Edition’ June 2016

 photo 20160614_182420--wm_zps5vdzkiru.jpg

Wow this post is late! Actually, my July box has been here for weeks and my August box will be here in a few days, eek! I kind of forgot I hadn’t published this, whoops…but anyway! Here’s a look at what was included in the June edition of TokyoTreat ^^;

When I heard TokyoTreat’s June theme was ‘Bizarre Candy’ I got super excited. Japan are the masters of bizarre candy after all! My main question was just how bizarre did TokyoTreat go with this box?

Sorry about the slightly darker photos this month. I did try waiting for better weather (since I’m totally reliant on natural lighting), but we’ve had an awful lot of dismal weather this month. Hopefully you can still see the snacks clearly 。^‿^。

Unboxing: Oyatsu Box Premium May 2016

photo Oyatsu Box May 2016 Review_zpsqmmyfule.jpg

I know I know, I’m so behind with unboxing posts. I’m all up to date as of this post though (until more arrive) so can focus on doing some more individual snack posts ^_^

Our May Oyatsu Box had no postal delays, so hopefully whatever the problem was with the UK postal service has been resolved now. Although despite having had the box since the 23rd of May, I’ve only had time to try one thing from it! つ´Д`)つ
